A Milanese family had a nightmare vacation in Sardinia. Last night, around 1:40 AM, Marco Rolando, traveling with his wife and children, was attacked by three unknown assailants while staying in a camper van in the clearing outside the Sa Carcaredda archaeological site in Villanova Strisaili.

"We come to Sardinia every year because we love this land and we've never had any problems. I understand an attempted robbery, but an attack of this kind, absolutely not," says Rolando, still shaken.

The sudden noises woke him. Thinking it was wild animals, he opened the door and found three men violently hitting the camper. "I couldn't believe my eyes; it was surreal." Marco Rolando shouted to push them away, but they didn't give up. While trying to chase them, he was confronted by one of them armed with a hammer: "When I saw it, I was scared and stopped. They ran away into the darkness."

He made sure his family was safe—"My daughter was sleeping near the window, and there were all the glass shards in her bed." Then he called the police. Only after they arrived did they realize the intruders had blocked the camper's wheels to prevent them from escaping. "We were very scared, we're frightened," the man admits.

This morning, the family filed a complaint. The man, suffering from some abrasions, was treated at the Lanusei emergency room. "We know this land and we know how welcoming and generous it is, but this situation has truly affected us."
