Moments of fear in Uta prison, where an inmate tried to attack an educator with a razor blade, also making death threats.
The episode was reported by the general secretary for Sardinia UIL Pa of Penitentiary Police, Michele Cireddu . «A disciplinary council where the operators were preparing to contest violations committed by the prisoner, who because of his violent behavior was transferred to 40 institutes on the Peninsula, could have ended in tragedy», Cireddu explains in a note. Then the story of what happened: «The prisoner took a razor blade that he had cleverly hidden from his mouth and tried to attack the educator. However, the intervention of three agents present was providential».
Not content, Cireddu adds, the man "then tried with all his strength to free himself and continued to threaten the educator, promising that at the first opportunity he would kill her. If there had not been the timely intervention of the officers, we would be commenting on a tragedy."
"The Penitentiary Institutions - underlines the secretary Uil Pa - have now become scenarios of unheard of violence and the situation does not seem to improve especially because the current Government has managed to align itself perfectly with its predecessors in not providing solutions".
Even in Sardinia – Cireddu continues – «the scenario is bleak : the Department continues to receive numerous prisoners from the Peninsula, so much so that in the Uta prison overcrowding has reached an unsustainable level with the staff struggling to find places for the new arrestees because the prisoners are literally crammed into the cells».
"We are facing an explosive situation - concludes Cireddu - that we continue to define as the worst of the last 30 years. We hope that the new Superintendent, recently appointed, can raise the situation together with the workers' representatives starting from the rubble, because continuing in this way is practically impossible . Our solidarity and closeness goes to the educator and the staff who intervened goes the applause and gratitude of all levels of the Uil".
