In Cagliari, in 2025 , motorists paid over seven million euros into the municipal coffers —7,12,219.61 euros to be precise. Of these, 564,971 euros were for speeding, while the remaining 6,447,000 euros were for all other violations covered by the law.
The Highway Code requires municipalities to use part of the proceeds collected, in some cases up to 50%, for specific purposes related to improving road safety.
Among the main activities on which the Council has decided to focus are the extraordinary maintenance of roads and sidewalks (1.79 million euros), improved signage on municipal roads (1.16 million euros), strengthening enforcement activities, including through the purchase of vehicles and equipment for the police force (1.4 million euros), road maintenance and road safety education activities, assistance interventions for vulnerable road users, and cycling mobility (1.6 million euros).
