The participation in the national strike of local public transport in Sardinia exceeds 90%, with peaks of 95% . Discomfort in the cities, especially for commuters and students. Also in Cagliari and Sassari, reduced services with the use of 30% of the travelling staff.

"Today's strike of local public transport - says the general secretary of Filt Cgil Sardinia, Arnaldo Boeddu - is one of those that will remain etched in the annals and not only for a participation in all regions, including Sardinia, which exceeded 95% . Today was the third strike and follows the first two of four and eight hours, but this was the first of 24 hours without time slots - continues the unionist -. The bus, tram and rail workers are asking not only for the renewal of the collective contract but for a real and profound reform of the sector with adequate resources, certain and constant over time and, at the same time, certainty regarding the safety of the personnel who, increasingly often, even on our island, are the object of physical and verbal aggression".

The transport sector - concludes Boeddu - is strategic on a par with healthcare and schools. More cars means more pollution, greater chances of getting serious illnesses. More injuries due to accidents which also lead to more healthcare costs. Allocating the right resources to public transport is not only a duty but a real social and civil investment".

The Sardinian delegation of Fit Cisl, led by Giuseppe Pinna, spoke on the stage of the national demonstration in Rome.
