He fell into a lit fireplace and died in his bed from burns. The victim of the tragedy, discovered this morning in Jerzu, is a former farmer from the village who would have turned 79 in four days. According to initial reconstructions, the tragic accident occurred two nights ago in the home on Via Berlinguer, in the Mesuidda neighborhood, where the elderly man lived alone.

The man fell into the fireplace, and in an instant the flames engulfed all the clothes he tried to remove and reach his bedroom. All in vain: his every attempt to free himself from that deadly trap was futile.

Neighbors, having not seen him all day yesterday or this morning as usual, raised the alarm. The man was lying on his bed, lifeless.

Emergency medical personnel and Carabinieri from the Jerzu branch responded to the scene, coordinated by the magistrate on duty at the Lanusei Public Prosecutor's Office. The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
