The girl accused some soldiers of having subjected her to brutal treatment , with wire cutters and a vice, for cutting a steel ring that was holding her thumb .

The prosecutor Gianmarco Vargiu requested the acquittal with the broadest formula for the lieutenant commander, Giovanni Vacca, 45 years old, from Porto Torres, the marshals Catello Di Martino and Emanuele Palagiano and the commander of the School (at the time of the event) Domenico Usai.
