A Forestry patrol discovered, half hidden by vegetation, in the countryside of Tortolì, a trap for foxes, martens and wild cats, consisting of a medium-sized cage, equipped with a "guillotine" closing device, ready to be activated by the prey using bait.
A bowl of water and a can of dog food had been placed in front of the trap, with the aim of attracting wild animals to be captured illegally.
The Forest Rangers remained in the area for several days to try to catch the poacher in the act, but finding no activity in the area, they then considered removing the cage and subjecting it to criminal seizure.
However, a criminal report was sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Lanusei for the crime of hunting with unauthorized means, punishable by a fine of up to 1,549 euros under current national and regional legislation.
Carnivores such as foxes, martens and even wild cats in particular belong to rare and particularly protected species and are highly “valued” on the black market.
