In the coming weeks the Sassari Brigade will take command of the Italian contingent and the Western sector of Unifil (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), the multinational United Nations interposition force in Southern Lebanon, whose mandate consists in ensuring compliance with the resolution 1701 of 11 August 2006 of the UN Security Council.

The command of the operation , called " Leonte ", will be entrusted to General Stefano Messina , commander of the Sassari Brigade, who from August to February will be at the head of a contingent of approximately 3,500 blue helmets which includes 1,000 Italian soldiers of which over 500 of the Sassari Brigade belonging to the Brigade Command, the 151st Infantry Regiment, the Logistics Regiment, the 5th Macomer Engineer Regiment and the 45th Command and Tactical Support Department "Reggio".

For "Sassari" this is the third mission to Lebanon after the six-month mandate of 2016 and 2020-21.

The deployment of the Brigade will begin in the next few days with the departure of a first group of soldiers from Cagliari-Elmas airport and will be completed by the first ten days of August.
