Stop bikes on the Sella del Diavolo and on the promontory of Sant'Elia, in Cagliari. The Regional Council decided, on the proposal of the president Alessandra Todde and the Environment councilor Rosanna Laconi.
With the provision adopted this morning, the proposal to integrate the decree containing the general and forestry police provisions (good land use standards) was approved.
The promontories of Cagliari are "characterized by fragile natural balances", and "the intense action of mountain biking and in particular downhill, has favored phenomena of instability and erosion". For this reason "the transit of bicycles, including those with pedal assistance, is prohibited", we read in a note.
The exceptions to the ban are transits permitted, according to the Highway Code, along the artificial road that leads to the Sant'Elia Lighthouse; the transit of service and emergency vehicles; the transit of bicycles, including pedal-assisted ones, along the path that leads from the Sant'Elia Lighthouse to the Sant'Ignazio Fort.
The news of the opening of an investigation procedure by the European Commission - Directorate-General for the Environment on the "scandalous deliberate failure to implement the management plans of the Zsc/Sic "Torre del Poetto" and "Monte Sant'Elia, Cala Mosca and Cala Fighera" on the Sella del Diavolo" was reported in recent days by the Legal Intervention Group of Stefano Deliperi. There was a risk of opening an infringement procedure. Now the Region is taking cover.
