«We take note of the Government-Region agreement on the need to increase the capacity of the regasification terminal in Porto Torres. In this way the supply of LNG to the Fiume Santo power plant could be guaranteed which, in anticipation of the future phase out, will have to stop using coal". The president of the Provincial Industrial Consortium of Sassari, Valerio Scanu, outlines the possible scenarios on industrial development based on the methane supply and distribution system via an Fsru shuttle ship in Porto Torres, equipped with a storage capacity of no more than 25 thousand cubic meters of LNG but of approximately 45m3, suitable for serving the industrial north and the basin of the metropolitan city of Sassari.

«During a recent meeting with Snam's top management we discussed the possible positioning of the energy infrastructure - adds Scanu - it would be a floating LNG depot, with regasification functions on the industrial port, but on this issue we reiterated that, in every case, the future port activity foreseen in the strategic planning of the industrial Consortium shared with the Port Authority must not be hindered".

The consortium body identifies the breakwater of the Turritano industrial port as the ideal anchorage for the methane tanker, an area with ample space for maneuvering boats and close to the new "Industrial Centre" designed by the Consortium to launch new production activities linked to sea economy. For its part, Snam insists on positioning the ship in the middle of the sea, between the Secchi pier and the breakwater.
