Special recognition for Sardinia at the 2023 Green Travel Awards .
The Arbatax Park Resort received the Unesco Decade of the Sea Honorable Mention , the award given by the GIST-Italian Tourist Press Group to the excellence of Italian and foreign sustainable and responsible tourism .
The presentation of the award - from the hands of Francesca Santoro , program specialist of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of Unesco and coordinator of the Ocean Literacy program - took place within the BIT, the Milan Tourism Fair .
The Arbatax Park Resort is therefore reconfirmed as a point of reference for environmentally friendly tourism thanks to a concept of sustainability that does not end with good practices, but implies integration and enhancement activities in respect of history, traditions and preciousness of the Sardinian territory.
At Arbatax Park, great attention is paid every day to differentiated waste collection , total waste recycling , composting of all organic material , recovery of dry branches and rainwater.
And then space for clean energy , with the implementation of additional photovoltaic panels every year and with the aim of arriving, in the future, at representing the first "carbon neutral resort" in Sardinia.
The structure is also eliminating disposable materials and is promoting "clean up" initiatives in which associations, citizens and tourists are involved in the collection of plastic from beaches and seabeds aboard the M/y Stella, a fishing boat restored by Mazzella Group and equipped with electric propulsion, awarded at the 2022 Venice Boat Show as Best eco boat in the Mediterranean.
The Arbatax Park Resort also makes use of the network of solidarity gardens , over 100,000 square meters of land adjacent to the resort which supply zero kilometer fruit and vegetables for the structure's restaurants. Sustainability is also in the gastronomic evenings dedicated to the healthy recipes of the Centenarians during the review "A Chent'annos ... at the table!" to raise awareness of the traditions of Ogliastra cuisine, one of the 5 Blue Zones in the world, or the enhancement of emerging Sardinian musicians thanks to the InCantos summer events.
«We are proud to receive this award, which is important because it is conferred by a global organization such as Unesco and by a prestigious association of journalists who appreciate our efforts to preserve this enchanting corner of Italy for the benefit of Italian and international tourists and which we have the duty to leave to future generations» the words of the entrepreneur and founder of the structure Angela Scanu Mazzella .
