Cagliari, without wanting to take any credit away from Luna Rossa, is the first, undisputed winner of this America's Cup preliminary regatta . Yesterday, on the final day of racing, it welcomed around 25,000 people .
From the early hours of the morning, the race village on Via Roma was overrun. Long lines formed in front of the official store, music and live events entertained the crowds, while hundreds of people continued to stream along the coastline all the way to Sant'Elia. The Lazzaretto, already packed hours before the race, saw the luckiest ones "climb" to the front row under the scorching sun. Some even thought it best to climb over the barriers to carve out a spot with a sea view.
A mosaic of languages, accents, and nationalities. Adding to the international atmosphere was the constant flow of cruise passengers , adding new color to an already extraordinary celebration.
"An event," emphasized the Regional Councilor for Tourism, Franco Cuccureddu, "that exceeded all expectations. This demonstrates that Sardinia can host major events and appeal to a very high-level audience ." This festival, said the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, "leaves an important legacy. Not only for its estimated economic impact, but for the image of our island, for the energy we breathed, for the way Sardinians felt this event as something that truly represented them."
