A major blow to organized crime has been dealt in the Sulcis Iglesiente region. A shipment of ten kilograms of ultra-pure cocaine was intercepted and seized following an extensive investigation and territorial control effort conducted by officers from the Iglesias State Police Station in recent days.

The services

The operation is the result of the intensified operations ordered by Police Commissioner Rosanna Lavezzaro, who increased the State Police presence in the area, including the deployment of reinforcements for the summer season. Under the coordination of Deputy Commissioner Giovanni Lopresto, investigators increased pressure on local criminals, successfully intercepting what turned out to be an exceptionally large shipment.

The drugs were found in recent days in a local coastal town: due to ongoing investigations, the exact location has not been disclosed. The drugs involved consist of ten kilograms of extremely pure cocaine, which, once released and cut for retail sale, could have earned the criminal organizations over five million euros. This illicit profit, thanks to the law enforcement operation, has been completely eliminated.

But the value of the seizure isn't measured solely in economic terms. Those ten kilograms of cocaine represented thousands of doses destined to reach drug dealing centers, with devastating consequences for consumers and families. For investigators, the operation therefore achieved a dual objective: inflicting significant economic damage on criminal organizations and removing from circulation what they call a veritable "instrument of death."

More directions

The investigation, however, is only just beginning and must answer questions that are far from secondary. Investigators will need to determine whether the shipment was destined for the Sardinian market, a hypothesis that would confirm—as similar investigations have already revealed—the existence of a well-organized criminal structure on the island, capable of receiving, storing, processing, and subsequently distributing a large quantity of ultra-pure cocaine. Alternatively, as has already occurred, Sardinia was merely a stopover on the drug's journey to other destinations. This second hypothesis, however, would also presuppose the presence on the island of a logistics network comprised of individuals connected to the criminal organization. It is no coincidence that the investigation conducted by the Iglesias police station represents only one piece of a much broader investigation. Further investigations are ongoing and could uncover connections to recent incidents in the area, opening up previously unsuspected scenarios. An investigation destined to cross the island's borders, following a trail that could lead to a much larger organization.
