An investigation has been ordered into the death of a 23-year-old man hospitalized in the medical ward of the Paolo Dettori Hospital in Tempio . This morning, the boy's condition rapidly worsened, and the Tempio hospital staff arranged for an urgent transfer to the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Olbia . Unfortunately, the patient died almost immediately .

The boy had presented to the emergency room with severe chest pain and was initially sent home. Only after a second visit to the emergency department was he admitted to the hospital.

The Olbia Local Health Authority has also ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death, which is believed to be a massive pulmonary embolism. The patient, originally from Luras, had been hospitalized for several days for suspected bronchopneumonia.

The Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor's Office has also begun initial investigations into the tragedy; there are no formal charges or definite criminal allegations, at least at this time.
