The first phase of checks by the Forestry Corps , in collaboration with the police and carabinieri, to combat the phenomenon of illegal camping and the occupation of state-owned space in various areas of Sulcis, ended with 16 fines.
The operations, from April 30 to May 4, were concentrated in several municipalities: Sant'Antioco, Portoscuso, San Giovanni Suergiu, Giba, Masainas and Sant'Anna Arresi, in particular in the localities of Punta S'Aliga, Porto Botte, Punta Trettu, Is Pruinis, Porto Pino and Maladroxia .
Particular attention must be paid to areas taken by storm by campers, in pine forests, along dunes and in state-owned areas. 14 fines were issued for free camping and 2 for illegal occupation of state-owned areas .
The passage and parking of campers, the Forestry Corps reminds us, cause serious damage to the dunes, vegetation and sand . Damage that " can lead to the destruction of entire coastal ecosystems, making them unsuitable even for tourist use ."
Further checks will be carried out in the coming months, coinciding with the summer and the high influx in coastal areas.
