Pain in Sinnai at the funeral of Roberto Piras for thirty years coach of the Sinnai youth , who died last Saturday due to an illness in a citrus grove on the outskirts of the town.

Roberto, mister Piras, 59 years old, really left a great memory among the many hundreds of boys he coached: a memory underlined by the applause when the coffin wrapped in the yellow-blue flag of Sinnai left the parish church of Santa Barbara after the rite funeral celebrated by the parish priest Father Gabriele Biccai .

Roberto Piras, a farmer profession, a passionate coach, was one of the guides of the Sinnai youth teams (almost always together with Gigi Trudu ) before being a great fan of the first team in its Serie D championships first, of Excellence and Promotion then. .

Today the mass was attended by several players from yesterday (including Davide Murtas, Tonio Diana and Giorgio Meloni), but above all many of his boys .

There was also Roberto Meloni, one of his students, who returned from Paris where he discovered himself the discoverer of great talents, placed in different teams, including Sassuolo.

This year the president Giorgio Olla had entrusted Roberto Piras with the role of sporting director after having always coached (without ever taking a single lira before and a single euro later). Among the best memories a trip in 1998 with his Allievi team, to Kaliningrad, an enclave of Russia, on the border with Poland.

A coach who loved Sinnai and a company that also raised Davide Carrus, player of Cagliari in Serie A. Then of Ancona, Bologna, Fiorentina and Bari. The applause today, Mr. Piras deserved them all.
