On the front lines, defending the rights of the most vulnerable, right to the last. Pino Tilocca, principal of the De Castro High School in Oristano, passed away last night, just hours after the demonstration in the square with his students: he suffered a heart attack in his home . And today the city mourns a prominent figure, a protagonist of many civil and cultural battles.
He was 65 years old , and had been the director of the De Castro Institute in Oristano since 2015, and before that, of the Cabras Comprehensive Institute. He was always an active member of Libera, a movement in memory of the victims of the mafia . His commitment to this association was tied to his personal experience: the death of his father, Bonifacio, who was the victim of an attack in Burgos in 2004, just as his son Pino was mayor of the small town of Goceano and had suffered further intimidation . Since then, his civic commitment has continued with even greater strength and determination.
Today, the city is silent over a sudden and painful loss . He is mourned by his friends, colleagues, comrades in many battles, and thousands of students who saw in him not only a principal but a role model, an educator who knew how to convey the values of culture, civil rights, and the importance of critical thinking.
