Sexual violence against minors, shocking data in Sardinia: cases increased by 40% in one year
The dossier released by the State Police raises alarm: crimes against children and teenagers of both sexes are growing on the island, from abuse to mistreatment in the familyAlarm in Sardinia for crimes against minors and in particular those relating to sexual abuse and violence.
The shocking numbers are provided by the State Police , in collaboration with the Terres des Hommes Foundation , in view of the World Day of Girls and Young Women scheduled for October 11th.
The data refers to 2022, the year in which a total of 162 cases of crimes involving minors as victims were recorded on the island, with an increase of 4%.
Particularly serious, as mentioned, are the data relating to sexual violence : 21 cases in 2022, an increase of 40% from 15 in 2021. Then add aggravated sexual violence with 23 cases, +5% compared to 22 the previous year .
Again: the crimes of abuse of correctional facilities doubled (from 5 to 10 cases), child prostitution (from 2 to 4 cases) and corruption of minors (from 1 to 2), while the violation of family care obligations decreased (- 72% from 18 to 5 cases) and removal of incapacitated people (-50% from 12 to 6 cases).
The most widespread crime is mistreatment by family members and cohabitants, with numbers also increasing (+2%).
