One year and four months . This is the sentence requested today in court in Sassari by prosecutor Erica Angioni for Enrico Besta and Stefano Soro, executives of "Ambiente Italia," charged with manslaughter for the 2021 death of Gianuario Derudas, who was crushed to death by the forklift he was driving at the recycling center on Via Montello in Sassari.

The prosecutor's view is that the culprits range from the staff's failure to monitor the use of seat belts to the slope, which he believes was unauthorized, that the victim traveled. According to the prosecutor, seat belts were used sporadically at the recycling center, and perhaps Derudas himself, although the video of the incident doesn't confirm this with certainty, had not fastened his. Furthermore, the technical manual, according to the prosecutor, prohibits the use of forklifts on slopes exceeding 15% , whereas in this specific case, the slope was 21%.

All these factors, together with the incorrect position of the load, are, according to the prosecution, the causes of the accident.

Judge Paolo Bulla adjourned the case until November for further arguments and sentencing. The defense attorney for the two defendants is Massimo Pellicciotta.
