"I acted in self-defense."
These were reportedly the words uttered yesterday in Sassari, at the local police station, by the 45-year-old who allegedly hit a 46-year-old on Wednesday night in via Kennedy.
The latter is now in a coma in the intensive care unit of the Santissima Annunziata hospital. According to what the alleged attacker said, he was threatened by the other and to avoid a headbutt he defended himself with an elbow. The blow then made the 46-year-old fall to the ground.
The man, who had known the victim for years, presented himself spontaneously to the local police together with his lawyers Pierluigi Olivieri and Marcello Masia.
Investigated for attempted murder, he is currently at liberty.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Police is investigating the episode using the testimonies of those who were present and the images captured by cameras in the area.
