" We will redo the turf at the Vanni Sanna stadium ." This was announced by Sassari Mayor Giuseppe Mascia, referring to the million euros received from the Sardinia Region for work on the football stadium where Torres plays.
"This is funding we strongly desired and secured thanks to the sensitivity of the regional councilor for Budget and Planning, Giuseppe Meloni," explains the mayor.
"Through the regional budget change approved following the State-Region agreement," he continues, "we received a dedicated allocation."
Mascia had been personally committed to resolving the issues at a pitch now in critical condition. "Investing in the Vanni Sanna stadium means investing in Torres, its history, its fans, and the entire Sassari community," added Budget Councilor Giuseppe Masala. Now, he emphasizes, "we are waiting for the process to be completed with the approval of the bill by the regional council, after which we can proceed."
Once the funding arrives, the next steps will be the technical and economic feasibility study, the preliminary design, and the final draft of the executive project. Then comes the tender process, and if there are no setbacks, work can begin at the end of the next championship. In preparation for this, Palazzo Ducale announced, "a €140,000 intervention will be carried out to secure the playing field and comply with federal technical regulations."
One issue to be resolved concerns the best technical solution, which, according to the Municipality, should be natural turf. "For a variety of technical, economic, and, why not, sentimental reasons, synthetic or mixed solutions are less convincing," Mascia reports. In practice, this will involve removing the existing turf. The municipal administration then reports that a deep hole will be drilled to break up the layers compacted by trampling, promoting water drainage and root development.
To complete the work, the irrigation system will be upgraded and a new turf will be sown with certified-quality seeds. "This administration has always been, is, and will always be supportive of Torres, its club, its managers, its athletes, and its fans, because Torres is Sassari," concludes Sports Councilor Nicoletta Puggioni. "But at the same time, we are committed to providing an adequate home for all sports disciplines and all sports clubs," she emphasizes, "because we believe that sport plays a fundamental social and cultural role, and therefore must be supported in every way."
