A municipal official from the Municipality of Sassari has been in Bancali prison for two months on charges of stalking and escape. Judge Giuseppe Grotteria ordered a summary trial for him yesterday in court, subject to a psychiatric evaluation. According to the charges, he had become infatuated with a woman and had attempted to get close to her on several occasions, even calling her and threatening to kill her if she didn't show up.

On a couple of occasions, he allegedly attempted to break into the woman's home, and on several occasions, he allegedly showed up outside her apartment, demanding to see her. The judge then ordered house arrest, but the suspect, shortly thereafter, went to the airport in Alghero, ready to leave, he claimed, for work.

At that point, the investigating judge had ordered a precautionary prison sentence. Yesterday, the judge rejected the plea bargaining request made by the prosecutor, Ermanno Cattaneo, and defense attorney, Nicola Lucchi, and the latter requested an alternative trial. Attorney Francesco Chessa is representing the injured party.
