A difficult day in Sassari . The Municipality draws up a balance by retracing the emergency that began this morning due to heavy rains with an exceptional amount of water - 55.6 mm - fallen in a short time (in Sardinia the average is 66.6 mm per month).
At 10.20 the Municipal Operations Centre had already been activated by order of the mayor Giuseppe Mascia and with the Coc the synergy of forces on the territory between local police, civil protection and the associations registered in the regional civil protection register in agreement with the Municipality.
Thirty interventions were carried out in four hours , 44 officers and local police forces operating in the city together with 5 officials and operators of the municipal civil protection, 10 volunteers from the associations Misericordia, New Life, Sassari Soccorso and a crew from the Barracellare company.
Immediate responses on the field such as the closure to traffic of Piazza Santa Maria, at the height of the underpass, following a flood , as well as for Via Padre Zirano, also closed to pedestrians, and for a stretch of Via Gramsci. Traffic was stopped until the early afternoon for Piazza Santa Maria, road 11 and 33 of Predda Niedda, the Eurospin square, road 12, Via Forlanini.
Many more streets were checked to avoid further critical situations, from via Bruno to via Piandanna, from via Budapest to via Orecchioni, then viale San Francesco, via Pascoli, which had an open manhole , and viale Sant'Orsola, flooded by the overflowing of the Gabbaru stream . And also via Piandanna, via Budapest, via Zanfarino which will remain closed due to a fallen tree. Some homes were also flooded .
The drains, once again, have been “victims” of the force of the water despite the leaf collection service being active since October, with additional interventions in the tree-lined areas, and sweeping planned throughout the year.
