Degradation and redevelopment. The square above the Civic Market in Sassari has been abandoned for years, used to relieve oneself, take drugs or sell them, and to be a garbage dump that waste collectors have to clean up every morning.
And while the process of reviving the new market continues, the cost of which is more than 6 million euros, the evidence of that square, from which, among other things, one exits from the underground parking lots, continues, which is a true symbol of neglect.
Yesterday in the city council, following the report of the FdI group leader Roberto Cadeddu, the mayor Giuseppe Mascia opened a glimmer of hope for the future. "It is a square with many problems - says the mayor - and often vandalized". "We have the idea - he continues - to tackle a financial project between public and private entities to redevelop it".
The idea is that in that area one can work: «And therefore it also acts as a garrison». Mascia then announces that they are talking to those who work in the Market. «We will not force anyone to move to the new spaces once the work is finished. However, we want them to become the actors of a new way of understanding the area. And to achieve this we are preparing a regulation that will soon be communicated to the Council». Glimpses of the future in a present that, at the moment, still remains nebulous.
