Sardinian countryside on its knees: today in Cagliari the large farmers' protest

Their heavy wheels, the procession and the sound of the horns are the desperate cry of the Sardinian countryside, against the drought and the crisis in the sector. This morning the protest begins: they pass in via Roma, in Cagliari, blocking traffic on the streets towards the center, with long lines of cars queuing. The event was announced by Coldiretti in recent days.
A procession - the one that is taking shape in these hours - which, according to estimates, should reach a thousand people . « We will arrive under the Region building - explained Luca Saba, director of the trade organization -. We ask for a change of pace compared to previous regional governments: we want to have immediate answers first and foremost on the issue of drought , on vouchers and on water for animals , but we are also asking for a change regarding bureaucracy, wildlife, emergency management and everything today is limiting the growth of Sardinian agriculture."
The crisis in the countryside has been the subject of continuous complaints by Coldiretti «for four months now. The first ones since the installation of the new council have passed, now we expect immediate interventions, above all to guarantee that in July and August the animals can have water and food and that the crops in the open field do not have to be thrown away", Saba's words.
In the meantime, as scheduled, this morning the heavy vehicles traveled along the country roads, greeted the farms and arrived in the city, ready for the demonstration. Inconveniences on all the arteries connecting the center and the hinterland, with traffic at a standstill and cars queuing.
