Ninety-eight percent of goods entering or leaving the island travel by ferry : every Sardinian business pays a fixed and permanent additional cost on all goods, both imported and exported to the rest of the world. It depends on geography. It's the island gap . In 1999, the Attili law established territorial continuity, which guaranteed certainty in connections between Sardinia and the mainland. But on the freight front, that provision has never been implemented.
Now , to bridge the island divide, Sardinian businesses are stepping in . And so "Ambassadors of Sardinia" was born , a network of leading Sardinian companies that, for the first time, have chosen to directly engage in reducing and eliminating the insularity divide.
The presentation is scheduled for tomorrow in Cagliari, starting at 6:00 PM, in the "Giorgio Pisano" room of the Unione Sarda.
"Sardinia faces additional structural costs that limit the competitiveness of businesses, reduce their ability to attract investment, and contribute to the emigration of many qualified young people," explains Pierpaolo Murgia, coordinator of the network. The appeal is direct: "Complete the process begun over twenty-five years ago, achieving full recognition of the economic value of the island's disadvantage and the resulting compensation."
