The mild temperatures of this first part of 2026 are about to abandon the Island, giving way to cold, rain and snow .

Sardinia and much of Italy are in fact in the path of a vast disturbance that, starting from the polar regions and Scandinavia, extends to the Mediterranean.

During the day of January 6th, there will be a short break, then during the night, the experts continue, «the precipitation will resume and at the same time there will be a gradual decrease in temperatures, with freezing levels on the Gennargentu mountains above 1000 metres» .

On Wednesday the 7th, snowfall could also reach lower altitudes, between 600 and 1000 meters . While during the first part of the 8th, it will only affect "the highest mountainous areas."

Temperatures will drop significantly starting on Epiphany, gradually falling to 0 degrees Celsius even in the plains . According to experts, temperatures will reach 2-4 degrees Celsius in inland areas as early as January 6th, with Campidano being the warmest, with a forecast of 8 degrees. On the 7th, temperatures will reach 0 degrees Celsius in inland areas, and there will be frost across much of the island . At the same time, the mistral will blow strongly.

A brief respite will occur in the second half of January 8th and 9th , with a resurgence of high pressure, higher temperatures, and milder weather. But already between the second half of January 9th and 10th, a new low pressure system is expected to arrive from Northern Europe .
