The man wasn't answering his phone . His cell phone kept ringing. His friends became suspicious when a neighbor of the former driver reported that the door to the apartment on Via Lattalai had been open for hours. At that point, around 11:30 PM yesterday, they rushed to the apartment where they found the elderly man, who had turned 83 the day before, lying lifeless on the bedroom floor.
On the wall there were traces of blood , the result of a violent fall which almost certainly occurred following a sudden illness that had struck him in the preceding hours.
As is standard procedure, the doctor who arrived on the scene along with the Carabinieri of the Lanusei company left open a different hypothesis, so much so that the magistrate on duty, Valentina Vitolo, also arrived at the apartment and placed the body under seizure.
Only the autopsy , which the prosecutor will soon appoint, will provide absolute certainty about the cause of death. Originally from northern Italy, the man had lived (alone) in Santa Maria Navarrese for about thirty years .
He had put down roots here after a lifetime of driving buses . Everyone in the tourist district knew him. Every morning he would drink coffee at the bar and take a stroll by the sea. He had already suffered heart failure in the past. The last one proved fatal.
