Fear erupted yesterday in broad daylight in Samassi: two hooded men showed up in the historic center at the house where the ninety-year-old priest Monsignor Bruno Pittau lives with some family members. He was parish priest in Serramanna for 40 years until his retirement and return to his hometown of Samassi.

The two thieves intended to burgle the apartment, but were perhaps distracted by the screams of one of the victim's relatives and fled. Carabinieri officers from the station and the Sanluri Police Company intervened.

Mayor Beatrice Muscas expressed the community's sentiments: "It happened in broad daylight, I'm shocked: this is a quiet town, we're shocked. Not only because of the attack itself, which is extremely serious, but also because it targeted an elderly person."
