The alarm went off last Friday: the family members had lost all contact with two women on board a sailing boat, engaged in a crossing from San Vito Lo Capo to Cagliari. Relatives had also put forward the hypothesis that the hull could take on water.

The Cagliari Coast Guard , having assessed the delay of the boat and the weather forecast, according to which stormy winds with three meter waves were on the way, ordered the use of an ATR 42 from the Catania base and two helicopters from the Catania base. The Air Force took off from Birgi and Decimomannu, which patrolled the area in search of the vessel.

On the morning of the 26th the vessel managed to contact the operations center. A helicopter immediately took off: the crew identified the vessel, with its engine and instruments failing, about 20 miles south-east of Villasimius .

The CP307 patrol boat left Cagliari immediately and reached the boat at 10.30 am: the women were taken to the port of Villasimius. They are fine.
