"Glencore must not close. And I reiterated this forcefully, together with Industry Councillor Emanuele Cani, during today's meeting with the workers gathered on strike at the Portovesme srl plant. If the logic is only that of profit, profit at all costs, I am capable of waging war. This Region is ready to wage war."

The president of the region, Alessandra Todde, has taken to the field in Sulcis to try to address the umpteenth employment emergency in the area. Three days ago, the company announced "that their new plan includes the downsizing of the industrial complex with the consequent firing of hundreds of people. We cannot accept this in any way", says the governor. According to whom "it is clear that a problem is being created that concerns not only employment levels, but also the development prospects of Sardinia, which in recent months has been working hard to find solutions to the various problems that have emerged".

Todde calls the company to its responsibilities: «It must respect the commitments signed. We will assert our reasons and we will not leave the workers alone in this battle . We will not allow the territory to be trampled and we will not abandon the families and our productive future, is the promise.

With her also the councilor Cani: «Glencore has disregarded all the agreements and commitments made. We will not accept in any way that the zinc line is stopped leaving only the landfill site active. We will not allow it», she said, «Glencore had made the commitment to keep the zinc line active until the transition of the new initiatives. We will fight in all the venues and with the appropriate actions to defend production and workers».
