It is the "City of oil", which however is not there this year in Riola Sardo either. Title that the Municipality received years ago for the quality of the green gold produced in the olive groves of the country's countryside, but which did not prevent the drastic drop in production. Even in Riola, those who produce oil this year are recording frightening numbers. But the whole of Sinis is suffering. The drop compared to last year, the producers say, is seventy percent.

Manuela Corrias, one of the owners of the Corrias oil mill, in Riola Sardo, takes a photograph of what is happening: «It is true that this is the year of discharge, in the sense that due to the nature of our plants it is difficult to have for years following abundant productions. But it is also true that the abundant rains in May, the month of flowering, did not help. The blow then came with the six months of scorching heat. We now only depend on the climate."

Franco Ledda, who has olive groves scattered throughout the Sinis, speaks of a terrible disaster: "There was no flowering, and the result is clear: we are facing a significant decline."

Inside the machines of the “Fratelli Loi” oil mill, in via del Lavoro in Cabras, there were just twenty quintals of olives per day: «Usually we are talking about 300 quintals a day - explains Daniela Loi, one of the owners - This year is a cry". Arturo Carta is the owner of two oil mills: «The one in San Vero will remain closed. The one in Nurachi is open but for now we are at a loss. I don't remember a year like this."
