The Sardinia Region has one month to decide on the LNG storage facility and the associated Giorgino regasification terminal in Cagliari.
This was established by the Lazio Regional Administrative Court, which accepted the appeal of Sardinia Lng Srl, the company that proposed the project in June 2017.
The project in question, the administrative judges emphasized, must be completed within 200 days, "a deadline that has largely expired in this case." The Regional Administrative Court (TAR) highlighted "the illegitimacy of the silence on the appellant's request," obliging the administrations to "conclude the proceedings with an express provision."
The Sardinia LNG project, a €120 million investment, involves the construction of a 22,000 cubic meter LNG storage facility in Porto Canale, along with a regasification plant, which converts the gas arriving on ships from a liquid to a gaseous state.
The project has been hotly contested by residents, fishermen, and even Grandi Trasporti Marittimi Spa, which had requested the annulment of the decree in which the Ministries of Culture and Ecological Transition had expressed their approval for the project. Regional Administrative Courts (TAR) had already rejected several appeals against the infrastructure, and now the order has arrived to break a long-standing administrative stalemate.
