Ten million euros to revolutionize the Cagliari waterfront with the redevelopment of the Via Roma promenade, the improvement of the harbor front and the definitive refurbishment of Piazza Matteotti.

This morning the mayor Paolo Truzzu and the architect Stefano Boeri explained the guidelines of the intervention, which will be designed by Boeri's company with Mic (Mobility in Chain), studio Silva and the company STP and Mate cooperative society.

"We care a lot - explained the mayor - as an administration to the theme of approaching the sea. The characteristic of our city is that it is surrounded by the sea, but it has no public spaces that allow it to be enjoyed better. we asked that this aspect, which is fundamental for us, be taken into account ".

“We are going to act on an important and delicate area of Cagliari. A fundamental point not only for the relationship between city and port but also for the flows through which the entire coastal part passes, for the rest of the city ", said Boeri, highlighting the need to" find a balance between traffic on wheels, on iron, on the other pedestrian spill and on the connections with some historical pieces such as Piazza Matteotti ”.

“There are many important and perspective themes - concluded the architect - that lead to imagine an extension of pedestrian usability and an increase in greenery. And we are thinking about putting together the different resources to find balance ”.

Daniele Olla, manager of the Traffic Service, speaks of “opportunities not to be missed”. “We have already started with the first inspections on the area subject to the intervention and we immediately found an agreement. Now we are waiting for a project of excellent quality and we are very curious to see how we will close what is a bet for us ”.
