Overtaking and knives, or car keys, on Easter Monday on the Sassari-Alghero highway. Two years ago, on Easter Monday, tragedy nearly erupted when two men, driving their respective cars, got into an altercation. The cause was alleged violations of overtaking rules, and tensions escalated as harsh words were exchanged while speeding. These did not abate when both men stopped and the argument reportedly resulted in the appearance of a knife, followed by a brief physical altercation . According to the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office and the alleged victim, the blade allegedly pierced the side of one of the men, causing a 3-millimeter wound. The man holding the knife warned the man he was attacking: "If you don't leave, I'll kill you." The other man obeyed and drove away, but went straight to report it, reporting "a bleeding side."
Thus, a 50-year-old man from Sassari ended up on trial, charged with aggravated assault and threats, represented by the lawyer Salvatore Dettori. The charges raised during the trial were denied by the accused, who had no criminal record, who spoke only of mutual shoving and speculated that the reported injury was perhaps caused by the car keys he was holding. He also denied the presence of any switchblade at the scene, the use of which, as argued in the case, would have caused injuries far more serious than a "linear graze."
The prosecutor had requested the conviction of the fifty-year-old, but yesterday, in court in Sassari, Judge Monia Adami ordered his acquittal because the facts were not proven.
