Many initiatives also in Sardinia on the occasion of the "Day of the sea and seafaring culture", which is celebrated on 11 April each year with the aim of promoting and developing the culture of the sea in schools of all types and levels. as a resource of great scientific, recreational, cultural and economic value.

The Coast Guard of La Maddalena, with the collaboration of the management of the schools of La Maddalena and Santa Teresa Gallura, together with the National Park of the Archipelago of La Maddalena and the Capo Testa - Punta Falcone Marine Protected Area, organized a series of appointments involving students in a path of civic education of the sea and environmental awareness.

During the morning, together with the Civil Protection, the Local Police and the "Capo Testa Republic APS" association, a "waste collection" activity was organized along the Rena di Ponente beach which involved young students who, subsequently, had the opportunity to visit the patrol boats of the Coast Guard, for the occasion in the port of Santa Teresa Gallura, and finally participate in a meeting on the theme of the safety of navigation and the safeguarding of human life at sea.

A guided tour was also organized on the island of La Maddalena for 120 pupils of the “G. Garibaldi ”at the Museo del Mare and the Geomineralogical Museum of Caprera. This will be followed by a “waste collection” activity on the Caprera beach in the company of the volunteers of the association “An archipelago without plastic”.

The second classes of the inclusive Institute of La Maddalena instead gathered at the tourist port of Cala Balbiano, where they were able to visit the patrol boats of the Coast Guard and participate in the awareness-raising meetings on safety of navigation held by the local section of the Naval League and on the subject of environmental protection with the contribution of the “Plastic Free” association.

Finally, the very young participated in an explanation on the issues of anti-pollution and on the operational methods of intervention by the local Civil Protection, then the meeting with the association "SEA ME Onlus" which is dedicated to the protection and conservation of the sea and its resources, with particular attention to the cetaceans present in the Mediterranean Sea and their habitats.

The day ended in Piazza XXIII February with greetings from the commander of the port, the frigate captain Renato Signorini, the acting director of the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park Yuri Donno and the mayor of La Maddalena Fabio Lai.
