Protect workers and their families by ensuring the provision of social safety nets starting from January 2025. This is the primary objective for the Portovesme production site , at the center of a discussion table held in Cagliari at the regional Department of Labor and which saw the participation of Minister Marina Calderone .

During the summit, there was also more general discussion about the future of the Sulcis-Iglesiente industrial area, with the aim of creating a permanent crisis table that – thanks to a plan to support and retrain workers – will allow the Sardinia Region and the Government to find a «structural and systemic solution».

The trade unions Cgil, Cisl, Uil, Confindustria and the regional councilors for Industry and the Environment, Emanuele Cani and Rosanna Laconi, also took part in the meeting.

"Our will is to support the workers of Portovesme with all the tools at our disposal because Sardinia cannot afford the creation of a further pool of one thousand two hundred unemployed people which would represent a real social emergency", explained the Councilor for Labor Desirè Manca.

Manca and Calderone, together with the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Urso, will visit – although confirmation is still missing – the Glencore plant in Portovesme on December 20th.
