The portotorresi Walter Pani , 36, and Mario Fois , 34, sport fishermen, delight with their boat in fishing for squid and squid in the waters of the Gulf of Asinara . An activity that requires passion, experience and knowledge of the seabed. But both could hardly believe their eyes when yesterday they raised a giant squid, more than a meter long, from the seabed. Almost a sea monster.

"We have often caught very large squid and squid - explains Walter Pani -. Never of this size. Really impressive. The fishing took place off the coast of Punta Scorno , northern end of Asinara. At a depth of 600 meters. We used one as bait. classic totanara, in iron and plastic. Getting it up was not easy and we had a bit of luck ".

The squid is a cephalopod mollusc almost similar to the squid (more delicious at the table), with a more elongated body and shorter side fins than the latter.

Walter Pani and Mario Fois recently participated in the Italian coastal trolling championships.
