The plastic emergency has forced the Porto Torres municipal administration to identify an urgent temporary solution to address the inconvenience of the lack of collection.
Starting from the next plastic collection day, scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, residents of Porto Torres will be able to regularly dispose of plastic packaging and cans for both domestic and non-domestic users.
This morning, December 11, Mayor Massimo Mulas signed the ordinance allowing the temporary use of special waste management methods. Specifically, it provides for the temporary storage of such packaging in a suitable area within the municipality until the plastic recovery facilities reopen.
To ensure the protection of public health and the environment, the municipal administration deemed it necessary to immediately find a solution that would allow the continuity of the waste collection service. Door-to-door collection had been temporarily suspended, as in several municipalities on the island, due to critical issues in the supply chain at the regional and national levels.
The designated storage area was identified thanks to the willingness of the Sassari Provincial Industrial Consortium , which granted the Municipality, on free loan, a suitable space on Via Pigafetta, designed to avoid any negative environmental impact. The Sangalli company, which manages the waste collection service, will therefore handle the usual collection.
Once the reopening of the recovery facilities is announced, the areas used for temporary storage will be restored and returned to their original uses.
