The regional secretary of the Democratic Party is Piero Comandini. He imposed himself on the photo finish on fellow regional councilor Giuseppe Meloni. The ballots of Quartu were decisive, where Comandini obtained 40% of the votes.

That was enough to obtain the number of delegates from the regional assembly (66 against Meloni's 64) necessary for the final election.

The result, not yet official, comes two days after the primaries celebrated on February 26 because only tonight did the regional congress commission decide to scrutinize the ballot boxes in Sardinia's third largest city, which remained sealed due to suspicions of polluting the vote.

Before the last count Meloni had an advantage of three thousand votes, but behind on the number of delegates of the Assembly.
