"It is an emergency that undermines the right to health of prisoners ." The president of the Sassari Medical Association, Nicola Addis , intervenes on the protest of the doctors of the Bancali prison who have announced their resignations for next April 15th.

"The situation is very serious - declares Addis - from next week only four will remain because one of them will leave ". A progressive and unstoppable impoverishment , if we consider that, just a few years ago, there were eleven of them. Too few to support shifts 24 hours a day, every day, including holidays.

«I talked to them. They ask for recognition of their professionalism and a permanent contract ." A possibility which, in the period of crisis that the national health system is going through, becomes a chimera for them. «I am in solidarity with the protest - the president points out - as I am for all the structures that must respond to citizens. And the prisoners are citizens in all respects." Finally, a thought on the recent anniversary of the Sassari University Penitentiary Center which celebrated its tenth anniversary: " It is good to celebrate the right to education, but it would be right to also be able to have the right to health ."
