He knew he was committing an irregularity: the "booty" was well hidden under the seat of the car, while two days ago he was embarking on board a departing ship.

But that tourist had been reported to the men of the Porto Torres Forestry Corps naval base, who searched the vehicle and found 7.5 kilos of sand, shells and pebbles stolen from the beaches of Sardinia, distributed among bottles and plastic bags.

"Despite the pounding advertising campaign that has also involved various names from the world of entertainment", the Forest Service informs us, "this year too our beaches have been targeted by predators".

The fine imposed ranges from 500 to three thousand euros, as required by the 2017 regional law which protects the beaches of the island.
