She was walking along a country road in Oristano, perhaps looking for food or perhaps someone who could take care of her and save her from the nightmare she was experiencing.
Nola, a ten-year-old pointer, was malnourished, mistreated and skinny when she was rescued by the zoophile guards of Oipa, the international animal protection organisation, in the countryside of Oristano. The owner, a 50-year-old man, was reported for animal cruelty and abandonment.
The incident happened a few days ago. The zookeepers together with the veterinarians of the Oristano Local Health Authority were busy checking some animals when they came across the pointer. They immediately rescued her, thinking she was a stray, but soon after they discovered that she had been abandoned.
«We found Nola in appalling conditions during a normal routine check in the area», says the coordinator of the zoophile guards of Oristano and its province, Roberto Fadda, «The dog, who is about 10 years old, was miraculously alive, malnourished as she was, practically a skeleton. As also ascertained by the ASL vet present during the kidnapping action, he was in conditions of extreme malnutrition and dehydration. He also had several abrasions on various parts of his body covered with fly larvae and parasites."
The guards tracked down the owner and reported him. "Nola is now in a veterinary clinic and, as soon as she recovers, she can be given in temporary foster care to whoever wants to give her all the love and attention that was denied to her", explain Oipa.
