Intervention by the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps in the Municipality of Oliena for the recovery of a climber stuck on the wall at Punta Cusidore, on the climbing route “L'ombra della mia mano”.
The call for help came yesterday evening: the man, part of a three-person rope team , was abseiling down from above when he was left hanging due to problems with the rope . The Nuoro Alpine Rescue Station was immediately activated and, together with technicians from the Iglesias, Olbia and Medio Campidano stations, they immediately went to the scene. The man was identified using a drone equipped with a thermal camera.
The Alpine Rescue requested the intervention of the HH 139B helicopter of the 80th SAR Center (Search and Rescue) of the 15th Wing of the Italian Air Force . The helicopter first headed to Nuoro to take on board two Alpine Rescue technicians and then headed to Oliena, towards the operations area to lower them onto the upper part of the cliff, but the adverse weather conditions did not allow the technicians to disembark. Two other Alpine Rescue teams were present on site, one positioned on the summit and the other at the foot of the wall.
Operations resumed at dawn and the man, along with his two other climbing companions, was rescued by the AREUS helicopter rescue service based in Olbia.
Also present were personnel from the Alpine Rescue, the Guardia di Finanza and the Fire Brigade.
