The church of Santa Croce in Olbia, granted to the Orthodox community linked to the Patriarchate of Moscow, was desecrated. During the night, unknown persons forced the entrance door of the sacred place adjacent to the primatial church of St. Paul the Apostle, destroying an icon with the face of the Lord and damaging a large candelabrum placed on the altar.
The Diocese of Tempio Ampurias reported the news and the parish priest of the church of San Paolo, Don Gianni Satta, condemned the act of vandalism, saying: «The gesture , evidently anti-Christian , together with the incredulity for the cowardice, has aroused feelings of pity, strength and peace of the Lord towards every man who frees man from every impulse of revenge and death ».
A cell phone was found at the scene, in the historic center of the city, and handed over to law enforcement who are conducting investigations to identify the person responsible.
