Crowds of students from the early hours, at “Science in the Square” and scientific dissemination wins the bet.
Landed in Olbia four years ago, the event, which closes its doors today, has gone from a few outdoor stands to a real two-day event inside the Archaeological Museum, enriched by exhibitions, workshops and conferences. This year, there was a record number of school registrations and a turnout of students who invaded the exhibition halls to see the experiments and participate in the conferences.
From biology to chemistry and robotics, from the creative recycling staged by the artistic “De Andrè” to the “sounds to see” of the “Marconi” of Sassari up to the innovative app project developed by four young students of the “Panedda” of Olbia (who won the first prize of the Remundu edition “AI 4 SE, Artificial Intelligence for small entrepreneurs 2024”), these are just some of the projects showcased in the scientific paths.
" A beautiful fourth edition with the participation of all the schools in the area and beyond - the comment of the councilor for culture Sabrina Serra - in which more and more people want to participate so much that these spaces are not enough for us. We have added various activities such as yoga and we had the great surprise of the participation of the Oscar winner Anthony LaMolinara. Special attention, then, went to the STEM subjects dedicated to female students".
The event has room for growth and the desire to expand its days, which have already become an opportunity for orientation for younger students: in this edition, all the middle and high schools of Olbia are present, as well as the high schools of Tempio, Calangianus, Arzachena, La Maddalena, but also the CSI, the AIF and three schools of Sassari.
Among the speakers, on the topics of artificial intelligence and its applications, the philosopher of language Fabrizio Funtò accompanied by the Oscar-winning Anthoni LaMolinara, a magician of special effects and winner of the statuette for Spiderman 2, and GianNicola Cabizza, a physicist, teacher and popularizer who traced a journey between UFOs and the search for intelligent life in space, among the creators of "Scienza in piazza", born, years ago, in Sassari.
Middle school students are increasingly involved. "In our school we have set up a small science lab and every year we participate in the event with small demonstration experiments - says the teacher in charge Barbara Canu, together with Marta Schintu , media "A.Diaz" of Olbia - The older kids, this year, have attended a course and bring a little robot programmed with Arduino software". The "Science in the square" event is organized by the Mathesis section of Olbia, chaired by Antonietta Carbone, and by the Friends of the Simpliciana Library Association, sponsored and financed by the Municipality of Olbia, the University of Sassari and UniOlbia.
