It is the largest province in Italy and those 136 kilometers coast to coast – from Olbia to Alghero via Sassari – were felt by everyone. But now that state road 729, the mother of all roads in northern Sardinia, is finished, it is time to put away the champagne for at least two good reasons (in addition to the biblical times).
The first is that for the moment the idea of traveling between Olbia and Sassari in less than an hour, and with ease, on four lanes is shattered by the conditions of the Carlo Felice, the last stretch of the route, and by the closure of the Chighizzu tunnel for works that will force it to be traveled on two lanes for at least six months. The second is that there are several roads waiting and there are no other imminent inaugurations.
They are all at the top of a list of priorities that the regional councilor for Public Works Antonio Piu is working on, having met several times with the mayors involved in recent months.
