The house was about to be destroyed by fire but the intervention of an off-duty policeman prevented the worst.
The facts date back to this morning. Shortly before 7am, the home of a 59-year-old trader, in via Palermo in Sestu, was attacked by flames and quickly filled with smoke. The soldier, who lives a short distance away, rushed over as soon as he heard the cries asking for help.
After making sure that there were no other people inside, despite the risk of poisoning, the policeman managed to reach the room affected by the fire. Using a fire extinguisher and water connected to a hose, he managed to completely extinguish the flames.
The Cagliari firefighters, who intervened on site, made the premises safe and ascertained that the cause of the fire was a short circuit. The house has been declared fit for habitation.
