"This is a historic turning point for the island's beef cattle sector," says Francesco Forma, director of the company "Forma Carni." "The native Sardinian-brown breed is at the center of commercial developments. We intend to start marketing this product within the year, and then immediately think about the IGP certification." All this is possible with the supply chain contract on the enhancement of the Sardinian-brown cattle breed, signed this morning in Nuoro at the Coldiretti headquarters. In fact, an economic network between 80 island breeders - represented by the trade association - the Forma Carni company and the Regional Breeders Association. Battista Cualbu, regional president of Coldiretti: "The fundamental point of the agreement is a guaranteed price for breeders."

Promoting native breeds, symbol and pride of the inland areas. The Nuoro agreement involves all the actors. It follows up on what was developed through the Valorisardo research project (led by the Forma company) and sets its sights on the great goal of recognizing the Igp (Protected Geographical Indication) certification. The Sardo-bruna is a breed with unique genetic characteristics, present on the island with approximately 57 thousand heads (30 thousand of which are registered for selection). "What we intend to do with this agreement will bring benefits on several fronts - explains Francesco Forma -. First of all, it will be a driving force to preserve and enhance the most important native breed present in Sardinia". Cualbu adds: "This is the result of the work started within the Nuoro-Ogliastra federation and extended to the entire region".
