A carefully planned robbery took place last night in the industrial area of Prato Sardo, where a State Monopolies warehouse was damaged.

The attack began before dawn, when unknown assailants blocked the access road to the area by scattering nails on the asphalt: a technique previously seen and often used by gangs specializing in robberies of armored vehicles. The road was closed to traffic, making it impossible to enter or exit Prato Sardo.

The entire area was cordoned off, while bomb squads, firefighters, and law enforcement responded to the scene, along with a massive police deployment, cordoning off the area, gathering witness statements, and launching investigations.

A bomb scare was also raised due to the suspected presence of a bomb: the area was evacuated as a precaution and is awaiting clearance by specialists.

No explosions or injuries have been reported so far, but the alert remains high. According to initial reports, the heist was a success, although the amount of the loot or the exact circumstances of the break-in are still unclear.

Investigators are working to reconstruct the stages of the robbery and acquire images from any video surveillance cameras.

The raid also had severe repercussions on traffic and public services. All businesses in the industrial zone were shut down from 4:00 AM, and the entire ARST transport system was also halted: buses to Cagliari, Sassari, and other Sardinian cities were not allowed to depart from the Prato Sardo depot.

The vehicles that were supposed to take students from nearby towns to school were also blocked, causing major disruption throughout the province.
